“Trust the Process” Is a Lie Until You Trust Yourself

Everybody says trust the process. I said it too, for years, while nothing changed.

Here’s what I missed. There’s a big difference between trusting the process and trusting yourself. And you can’t do the first one until you fix the second.

WatchTrusting the process is a lie if you don’t do this

Why trusting the process doesn’t work

Every time you said you’d do something and didn’t, your mind wrote it down. You said it, you didn’t do it. You said it, you didn’t do it. Years of that.

So when you finally sit down to change your life, something underneath goes, yeah, sure you will. The order never goes through, and you wonder why the process isn’t working.

The world doesn’t trust you because you don’t trust you. It’s just running on your signal. That’s Chapter 3 of You Are Not You, and it’s the chapter I put before every technique in the book.

The fix is boring as hell

Stop making promises you don’t keep. Especially the tiny ones.

  • Say five minutes, do five minutes.
  • Can’t do five? Say one.
  • Make it stupid small. Then keep it every single day.

The size doesn’t matter. Keeping it is everything.

Credit first, then the process

Here’s how I think about it now. The first thirty days buy the trust. The second thirty spend it. Thirty days of kept promises, and your mind goes, I think they mean it this time. Then you run the assumption, and it actually lands.

Most people skip straight to the spending. That’s why “trust the process” turned into a slogan instead of a result.

The point

You’ve been begging the world to believe you. Meanwhile the only one who watched every single broken promise is you. Fix that first. One promise tomorrow. Go.

Go deeper: how to build self trust and why 21 days isn’t enough.

The book is You Are Not You. It isn’t out yet, but the first three chapters and the one-page protocol are free. Get them here.
