You stood in the mirror and said I am wealthy a hundred times. Nothing moved. So you decided affirmations are bullshit.
They’re not. Nobody handed you the manual. They gave you fifty affirmations and zero rules, and you were speaking the wrong language the whole time.
Do affirmations work?
Yes, when they’re delivered right. An affirmation is just an instruction to your subconscious. And your subconscious has its own dialect. Break the rules of that dialect and the instruction bounces off, or worse, lands backwards.
Say I am wealthy flat, in traffic, while the old program runs underneath going yeah, right, and what your mind actually hears is I am broke. Every single time.
The 4 rules your subconscious follows
These come straight from Chapter 17 of You Are Not You, The Power of Suggestion.
1. It drops the word “not”
The subconscious doesn’t do negation well. I am not anxious gets filed as anxious. Say what you’re claiming, not what you’re running from. I am calm.
2. It’s literal
It doesn’t get metaphors the way your thinking mind does. Say exactly what you mean. Skip the poetry.
3. It only lives in the now
I will be confident gets filed under someday. Someday never comes. I am confident gets filed under now, which is the only time it knows.
4. It only writes in emotion
Say it flat and nothing lands. Say it with a picture and a feeling and it goes ten times deeper. See the moment. Feel the ease of it already being true.

When you say them matters as much as what you say
Most people do affirmations wide awake, when the critical mind is on guard. Do them when the filter’s down instead: after a few rounds of breath, right after you wake up, or in the heaviness right before you fall asleep. In the book I call that the theta doorway.
Fix one tonight
Take one affirmation you gave up on. Run it through the four rules. Make it yours, in your own words, because borrowed affirmations don’t have your fingerprints on them. Then say it tonight with the lights off, and feel it like it already happened.
Powerful was never about the words. It’s the delivery.

Your mind deletes one word
